Organisers of the 2013 song contest have announced that Malmö will be hosting the event next May.
Venue of the event will be Malmö Arena which can take up to 15,000 spectators.
-The choice of Malmö is based on an overall assessment of the environment in which we think is best for the format of the Eurovision Song Contest, both in terms of TV shows and on the preparations, says Martin Österdahl, the Executive Producer of Eurovision Song Contest 2013.
Other cities that were interested to host Eurovision Song Contest were Stockholm and Gothenburg. The latter however withdrawn from the race just before the deadline because of other events.
I’ve been in Malmö before, and I find this beeing a a good choice. As a keen traveller, I will also recommend visiting Lund. It’s a nice town with great familial atmosphere. Malmo, on the other hand, stands out for its huge number of restaurants (food from all over the world), nice shopping malls and public parks. It has not that metropolitan feel like Copenhagen or Stockholm, but there’s certainly enough things to see and do if you spend a weekend here. In addition, travelling between all the nice and idyllic old towns in the region, like Lund, Helsingborg and Ystad is really easy because of good communications.
