Latvian pre-selection gets underway this weekend as the two semi-finals are going to be competed on consecutive days. Tonight, the first 12 are competing in semi-final one and tomorrow another 12 gets on stage at the second semi-final. From both semi-finals, six most voted qualifies for the final which takes place in Ventspils on Saturday, February 16. The semi-finals are, however, streamed live from the Palladium Concert Hall in Riga.

The professional jury together with the audience decide the qualifiers, they both have a 50% stake in the outcome. Voting begins after all the songs have been performed and is open for 15 minutes. LTV will provide a webcast for international viewers on its website.
Although I love the Latvian entry from last year “Beautiful song” by Anmary, Latvia is one of those countries that urgently needs to regroup considering the very poor results from recent years. And Latvia did a great job because this is easily the strongest Latvian heat in years! This is a good bunch of songs. I must admit that this is mainly due to the involvement of foreign composers. The Latvian broadcaster has really done well to allow foreign composers to the competition.
I have 2 big favorites:
- Liene Candy – Higher and higher
- Samanta Tīna – I need a hero
But I like many other songs too.
