Eurovision 2016: Host city race kicks off

Malmo Arena

Malmö Arena was the venue for 2013 Eurovision Song Contest

Sweden is hosting the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest but where? The answer will be given mid-summer and SVT is now asking every willing city to enter the race. In fact, SVT contacted Swedish cities and arenas already before they won Eurovision.

– Because we were pre-favorites, we had to inform cities to be prepared to be approached by us soon after the victory and to have applications ready, Christer Björkman told.

The bidding phase is open for a couple of weeks and after that, SVT will review the applications. The most potential options to host are Malmö, Gothenburg and Stockholm. Stockholm and Malmö have hosted the song contest twice and Gothenburg once.
